3 Curious Characteristics of An Unstoppable Christian

What does it mean to be unstoppable?

In the world of sports it could be a coach like John Wooden. He and his UCLA college basketball teams won 10 championships in 12 years including 7 in a row. They were virtually unstoppable at winning national championship titles.

In the world of music and entertainment it could be Taylor Swift. She has sold over 40 million albums including hundreds of millions of individual digital downloads. When she makes her concert series public – the venues sell out in minutes! She is virtually unstoppable when it comes to making hit songs and packing out stadiums.

In the business world it could be a company like Apple who keeps launching captivating products. They are getting ready to cause even the younger generation to start wearing watches again! They have 17 billion in the bank and they are seemingly unstoppable when it comes to innovation.

But here is the truth whether it be sports, business or entertainment all of these dynasties, tech developers and divas will eventually fade.

There is only one truly unstoppable force in this world and that is God’s Church and God’s people.

Here are three characteristics of an Unstoppable Christian.

1. Unstoppable Christians are filled with the Holy Spirit.

Acts 4:8 – Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people!

The reason Peter could do what he did and say what he said is because he was “filled with the Holy Spirit.”

The Christian life isn’t hard … it’s impossible without the Holy Spirit of God in you.

We could debate all day long how you get the Holy Spirit in your life? And I would never put God in a box and say here is how God does anything every single time.  But I can tell you when the very first church was beginning in the book of Acts – Peter, who is filled with the Holy Spirit, tells a crowd of thousands …

Acts 2:38 – Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

If you want to be an Unstoppable Christian I would say, before anything else, you to need to repent and be baptized because the Bible says clearly you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

There are all kinds of unstoppable attributes the HS provides our lives …
– Power
– Protection
– Clarity
– Comfort
– Conviction
– Comprehension
– Understanding & Insight

A hallmark of an unstoppable Christian is insight.

I Cor. 2:9-15 (TLB) – That is what is meant by the Scriptures which say that no mere man has ever seen, heard, or even imagined what wonderful things God has ready for those who love the Lord. 10 But we know about these things because God has sent his Spirit to tell us, and his Spirit searches out and shows us all of God’s deepest secrets. 11 No one can really know what anyone else is thinking or what he is really like except that person himself. And no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. 12 And God has actually given us his Spirit (not the world’s spirit) to tell us about the wonderful free gifts of grace and blessing that God has given us. 13 In telling you about these gifts we have even used the very words given to us by the Holy Spirit, not words that we as men might choose. So we use the Holy Spirit’s words to explain the Holy Spirit’s facts. 14 But the man who isn’t a Christian can’t understand and can’t accept these thoughts from God, which the Holy Spirit teaches us. They sound foolish to him because only those who have the Holy Spirit within them can understand what the Holy Spirit means. Others just can’t take it in. 15 But the spiritual man has insight into everything, and that bothers and baffles the man of the world, who can’t understand him at all.

One of the most powerful purposes of the Holy Spirit is to illuminate our minds  and to help us understand the Word of God.

You must have the Spirit of God to understand the truths of God.

Without the Holy Spirit in your life you may grasp the information but you will not experience the transformation. The truth of the Bible is more than hearing it on a Saturday or Sunday it is going out there and living it on a Monday!

You may be an excited and inspired person on Saturday or Sunday but you will not be an unstoppable Christian on Monday without supernatural insight, wisdom, understanding and power which comes from being filled with the Holy Spirit of God.

2. Unstoppable Christians are courageous in their claims.

Acts4:12 – Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.

Peter who is full of the Holy Spirit makes an incredible and courageous claim. He says, “There is no other name given under heaven by which you must be saved.”

Translation – Jesus is the only way to heaven.

This is not Peter’s theory or notion. He is simply repeating what Jesus had already said about himself.

[Tweet “John 14:6 – I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”]

Unstoppable Christians are continually, courageously and clearly pointing people to Jesus.

As we look at our lives in this world we have two choices …

We can rest easy and thank God that we live in the United States of America. And we can be content to live casual, cozy, comfortable Christian lives. We can choose to just blend into our culture that is marked by materialism, consumerism and individualism. We can just play it safe.

Or…

We can decide that Jesus is worth more than a casual Christian life. We can trust that we have indeed as followers of Jesus been given the power and presence of the Holy Spirit of God. We can take a courageous stand and unapologetically point people in our schools, workplaces, neighborhoods and world to Jesus.

3. Unstoppable Christians have spent time with Jesus.

Acts 4:13 – When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

You want to lead an Unstoppable Christian life?  You gotta get around Jesus – a lot.

How much time do you spend with Jesus each week?

Let me get more personal …

Do you spend more time with Jesus or Facebook (Social Media) each week? Listen, I love social media but I’m pretty sure Satan loves it more than I do. And he loves it more than you do. Because social media distracts so many of us from spending time with Jesus and God’s Word.

Let’s shoot straight …

For years I have said, “If you want to change your day … just spend 5-10 minutes with God in the morning.” That will change your day. And I still believe that is true.  But if you want to also change your family, workplace, school, neighborhood and city.

I think it’s about time we man up and admit we need more 5-10 minutes a day with Jesus!

I think if we believe that we can live a life like those in the book of Acts off a diet of only 5-10 minutes with God a day we are deceiving ourselves. We are setting ourselves up for a spiritual let down if we think we can spend very little time with God and experience a big and Unstoppable Christian life.

So here is my question …

What’s stopping you from being unstoppable?

– Do you need more time with God this week?
– Do you need to make a courageous stand?
– Do you need to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit?
